KHAYELITSHA AQUATICS CLUB
Khayelitsha Aquatics Club is the resolute backbone for current kids and teenagers learning how to swim from underprivileged areas surrounding Blue Downs, Cape Town.
Community-driven swimming clubs serve as vital lifelines to combat high drowning rates.
The photographs below aim to open up discussion within the national governing body for swimming, Swim South Africa, for there to be at least one volunteer swimming coach to be funded onto the 'Learn to Swim' course in the deprived areas with a municipal pool.
More qualified coaches can create a snowball effect of knowledge for young swimmers within their communities to teach the importance of water safety and drowning prevention.
